  • Care Coordination Program for Military Personnel and Veterans
    • The Care Coordination Program provides assistance with stable housing, suicide prevention, employment, and access to critical mental health care.         • Services are provided on a twenty four hour, seven day per week basis for patients who present to the Emergency Department, their outpatient medical provider, or who have been admitted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center's inpatient medical services. Brief assessments and focused interventions are provided for all age groups and for all types of psychiatric problems, by a multi-disciplinary team consisting of licensed clinical social workers, psychologists, medical students, psychiatric residents, and staff psychiatrists. In addition to direct patient evaluation, brief telephone assessment, intervention, and referral services are also provided on a twenty four hour basis. These telephone services are provided by experienced, licensed mental health professionals, who accept calls from patients and providers throughout the region.

        • The Psychiatry Service provides 24-hour diagnostic and therapeutic treatment for all acute psychiatric problems with the basic goal of attaining safety and stabilization. Therapy modalities are primarily medication and group therapy, and arrangements for appropriate follow-up care.

        • The Mood Disorders Service at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth specializes in the evaluation, treatment and study of mood disorders. The most common forms of these illnesses are Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Dysthymia. Treatment forms include: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), one of the oldest and most effective treatments for patients with severe depression; Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), an outpatient procedure that generates a magnetic field that penetrates the scalp resulting in the production of very small electrical currents in the brain; Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) an approved treatment of severe, treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder under a Humanitarian Device Exemption from the FDA.     • The Parkland Center for Emotional Wellness offers treatment strategies for individuals with acute emotional health stressors/symptoms which cannot be safely and adequately addressed on an outpatient basis. Our program also has the capacity to treat individuals who may have a medical condition in addition to the emotional crisis they may be experiencing. Our services incorporate a collaborative, interdisciplinary treatment team approach to meet the needs of the individuals we serve. In order to foster positive outcomes, the treatment team is comprised of the patient, facility staff, the patient family and/or significant support system, as well as engagement with after care providers. The assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care and safety are performed by a therapeutic team consisting of physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, case managers, activity therapists, educators, and clinical nutritionists.
