New Hampshire

  • NAMI NH, 800-242-6264

    • NAMI NH provides education, support, and advocacy for persons with mental illness and/or serious emotional disorders and their families. The national organization website: www.nami.org also provides a Child and Adolescent Action Center, which includes the newsletter, Because Kids Grow Up. NAMI NH Information/Referral Service (800-242-6241) connects callers with trained individuals who answer questions; help access information about mental illness, serious emotional disorders, treatments and services; provide connection to local NAMI NH support groups; and provide referrals to appropriate organizations. NAMI NH also offers Parents Meeting Challenges, an 8-session program for parents and primary caregivers of children and adolescents with serious emotional disorders; Family to Family, a 12-session program for family and friends who have an adult in their life with a mental illness; and Side by Side, an 8-session program for families and caregivers of older adults diagnosed with a mental illness.

    • The Office of Consumer & Family Affairs (OCFA) provides information, education and support for families, adults and older adults dealing with the challenges of mental illness. It is part of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services.

    • This organization provides references and support to parents of children with special needs. Among its other services, Parent to Parent will connect you with other parents who are handling the same issues and disorders that you are.

    • A service of the NH state library that provides a wide range of information and a statewide calendar of events.

Vermont

    • NAMI VT Helpline for Mental Health Information and Resources: 800-639-6480

    • NAMI Vermont is a grassroots volunteer organization of individuals who have joined together to accomplish the following goals: Provide SUPPORT to families and individuals coping with the problems presented by mental illness; EDUCATE the public and our members about severe mental illness so that perceptions change and stigma is eliminated; ADVOCATE for a system of adequate care in every community.

  • Treatment Advocacy Center
    • The Treatment Advocacy Center is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating barriers to the timely and effective treatment of severe mental illness. The organization promotes laws, policies and practices for the delivery of psychiatric care and supports the development of innovative treatments for and research into the causes of severe and persistent psychiatric illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The Stanley Medical Research Institute (SMRI) is a supporting organization of The Treatment Advocacy Center.
